Ha Mai Solar
Solar | Lifuka, Ha’apai
The Ha Mai Solar Facility is the first solar farm installed at Lifuka, Ha’apai. It has a capacity of 550 kW and 660 kW/hr of battery storage. Ha’apai is the first island in Tonga to reach 50% renewable energy, another step towards Tonga’s overall goal of achieving 50% Renewable Energy over by 2020.
The solar plant achieved positive results in terms of gender balance with almost 40% of those that were employed in the project were female lines technicians.
The project is funded by ADB, DFAT, European Union and the Second Danish Cooperation Fund and was administered by ADB under the Outer Islands Renewable Energy Project.
