ELECTRICITY TARIFF INCREASE EFFECTIVE FROM 2nd FEBRUARY 2017

A significant increase in the regulated price of diesel has been approved by the Competent Authority effective 16 January 2017.This has contributed to an increase of 15.40 seniti per litre (13.8%) from $1.1124 per litre in September 2016 to $1.2664 per litre in January 2017.

COMMON UTILITY BOARD PRESENTS TOP$4,345,262 DIVIDEND TO GOVERNMENT FROM A RECORD NET PROFIT OF $7,118,028


The Minister for Public Enterprises, Honorable Poasi Tei will be presented with a cheque of TOP$4,345,262.00 by the Chairman of the Common Utilities Board of Directors, Mr. Carl Sanft as the Combined Utility Dividend for the year 2016. The Government of Tonga, being the sole shareholder of power, water and waste utilities and the subsidiary companies Tonga Gas/Home Gas, is the sole beneficiary of this dividend.

Outer Islands Renewable Energy Project Progress Report

Australian Minister, Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells together with the Australian High Commissioner to Tonga, H.E. Ambassador Andrew Ford and delegates of Australian Department of Foreign Affairs yesterday visited the Ha’apai solar farm project. The on-grid project will become the first utility scale solar energy generation facility in Ha’apai.

Tonga Power Limited’s CEO, Mr. Robert Matthews and CEO of Zhuhai Singyes Green Building Technology Co. Ltd, Mr. Sam Leung have signed a long term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) at the Zhuhai Singyes headquarters in China on September 12, 2016 for the construction and commissioning of a 2 Megawatt solar facility at Matatoa, on His Majesty’s land at Mata- ki -‘Eua.
